The Ulthera machine sends highly localised ultrasounds deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen in the treatment area, thus lifting the eyebrow, the middle of the face, the under-chin area and the décolletage.
The treatment lasts between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, according to the area to be treated. Only one session is needed. The result is gradual and the final appearance, which is very natural, is visible after around 3 months and lasts for 12 months. Sessions cost between 2,000€ and 2,500€, depending on the area treated.
Ulthera comprises a computer which indicates the treatment procedure and records all of the actions to be carried out, and handheld devices which emit the ultrasound. The machine is equipped with an image scanner to show the exact depth that the doctor is treating. The procedure is monitored throughout to guarantee optimum efficiency.
The patient may feel a prickling sensation during treatment, when the ultrasound waves are sent into the dermis. After the session, the area may be slightly swollen.
Ulthera was bought by the Merz Aesthetics pharmaceutical laboratory in 2014. It is the only piece of aesthetic equipment to be marketed by a world-renowned pharmaceutical laboratory.
In order to obtain the FDA’s approval for its lifting procedure, Ulthera had to first demonstrate its efficiency and its safety, both of which have been proven in several studies.
